Linux offers important benefits that are critical to all businesses; security, stability, and reliability. However, many businesses have faced challenges in realizing these benefits because of the complexities of deploying and using Linux. First, Linux is primarily a command-line operating system. This means that using Linux requires programming experience, and command line skills. For anyone not meeting these requirements, Linux is difficult to use. Even for administrators who do possess these skills, using the command line to manage federated services across a multi-server environment is extremely complex. Traditionally these factors have required companies invest heavily in skills training for server administrators and to employ a high administrator to server ratio. Finally, the cost of switching to Linux is high as it requires a complicated migration process from Windows to Linux.
